I'm trying to get some old statistical software to run (for my boss), and it needs more than 64 mb of ram. As far as I can tell DOSBox doesn't support that. Am i wrong? If I'm right, please change that - thx0rs...

DosBox max memory allowed is 64mb which can be changed in dosbox.conf (By default it's 16mb).

If you want more you'll have to edit DosBox's source and remove the limitation.

If that's too much for you then just use VPC/Vmware/VirtualBox/Qemu.

No. You will probably need using some good ms-dos extender to fully take advantage of memory.

Hmm weird. How come a game like Battlespire, which says it needs 64Mb to run well, only detects 32Mb in Dosbox when I put memory up to 64? I mean, if it needs 64Mb, then it would have an extender that can use that much memory surely?

Aye, I've had the exact same problem with Battlespire. If I try Battlespire in real DOS machine with 64mb, then it see and take advantage of all the RAM.

In DOSBox I get this

Starting Battlespire... […]
Show full quote

Starting Battlespire...

Warning: 31M RAM+Swap detected.

Battlespire has detected less than the desired amount of memory
available to the game. The is ost likely due to the DPI memory
setting of your DOS box. Please read the 'patch.txt' file and pay
close attention to the 'Random Crashes' section.

It is also likely that you may be low on disk space. We recommend
that you have at least 40 megabytes of free space on your hard disk
before running Battlespire.

If you decide to continue playing the game, there is a *VERY* good
chance that it *WILL* crash.

[Hit 'q' to stop loading the game or any other key to continue...]

On a real 64mb DOS machine I get this

Starting Battlespire...

Good: 55+ RAM and swap detected

And in the DOSBox.conf file I have memsize=63 and tried various options with xms=true/false and ems=true/false and used the normal core. The solution in the PATCH.TXT file only refer to the DOS memory settings with Windows 9x .pif files so it's no go.

You can also try out the DOSBox CVS of Ykhwong in the Daum Cafe.

Just google Daum Cafe Ykhwong and you'll find it.

I think it supports up to 128MB's of RAM.
