tie fighter isn't protected mode iirc, so cycles=max that sucker

It is protected mode, but for fluid svga play you need a very decent machine (2GHz+) which eeepc is not.

Yeah i did and even let it try as a 'slow' machine still very jumpy.

Is there anything i can do to get it to render the 3d parts better.

This machine after all can run compiz ok (advanced desktop effects). Heres my dosbox.conf

There is a Win95 version of Tie Fighter. Maybe you'll want to try that version using Wine...
