Hello,

I'm new to Dosbox, but I am wondering what the best .conf settings would be to run a high demanding FMV game.

I currently have it set on the defaults, and I've tried to change the frameskip=1 and cpu cycles to 6000 but I don't think it's registering.

If I was to change the settings in the .conf file, I just implement the new numbers correct?

And if a game is running slow, what can anyone suggest?

Please bare with me, I am new to this.

thanks

6,000 cycles isn't very high. The most demanding DOS games run in DOSBox require 50,000+ cycles at least.

Since you didn't mention your system specs or the game we can't really suggest much except to use the latest version of DOSBox which is 0.73 which should automagically run the game at a fast enough speed.

I have a powermac G5 , and the newest version of dosbox.

I am pretty sure it is running dosbox at the highest speed too, it says 'max' on the top toolbar.

The game is Phantasmagoria 2, and I do not understand why it's running slow.

Would a frameskip help? (it's the video that is lagging)

Aren't the system requirements for Phantasmagoria 1 and Gabriel Knight 2 much less than Phantasmagoria 2?

and AFAIK DOSBox on PowerPC doesn't use dynarec (dynamic core).

If you can drop the resolution or FMV size that may help if not then your only solution would be VPC or the like instead of DOSBox on that computer for that game.
