Is there a setting to allow moving the mouse from dosbox to the desktop without having to press Alt+Tab, like with scummvm?

Nope. The only other way is to press the keyboard combo alt+enter then click outside the dosbox window.

Pressing the "windows" key also does the trick for me... I'm running Win XP pro so I'm unsure about how effective it is on other OS's...

I am aware of the ctrl+F10 function (it's in the readme 😀 ),
What I meant was will it be possible to transition from dosbox to desktop without having to press ctrl+F10, alt+Tab or window key in future releases?

Dosbox requires for proper mouse emulation a mouse lock. (you can't move from the window)
One of the reasons is that games want to scroll if you move the mouse pointer to the edge and futher. without locking the mouse would be gone.
