I am trying to type mount c programs in my dosbox, but all of my letters come out as numbers. I cannot figure out what to do. Does anyone know?

Thanks in advance.

If you are trying to mount your %ProgramFiles% directory in DOSBox, don't. Do not mount any system folder. Instead, create another folder either in your user folder or outside of any system folder, say, C:\OLDGAMES and mount it. Follow the old DOS naming convention of 8.3, in other words, no more than 8 characters long with no more than a 3 character extension. Use no spaces or special characters.

It is just the way that DOS reads long file names. As I said, don't use long file names. For Mixed-up Mother Goose, try this:

Thanks for your help so far. I am completely new to dosbox and am having trouble figuring everything out.
Any suggestions?

Yes: don't post links to illegal downloads (or links to pages linking to illegal downloads) here. There are good reasons for this policy, search VOGONS for "abandonware" to find out more. Ask where you've downloaded the illegal files, or ask the "specialist" who wrote the "guide".

That's better (; . Can't help with the actual problem, but let's try to establish some more info and isolate the issue.

First: what type of machine are you using, a notebook by any chance? Which OS are you on? Do you see the problem right after starting DOSBox, or after launching a (specific?) game? Did you have similar issues while running other programs?

This is my first time using dosbox, so I have yet to have any problems with any specific programs or games. Right when I open dosbox and go to type, the letters I am clicking are instead numbers. My computer is a Samsung, with Windows 7.

DOSBox version? Downloaded from where?
The official build from http://sourceforge.net/projects/dosbox/files/ … er.exe/download should work. Try a clean install.

I don't mean to hijack this topic, but I'm having the same issues as the topic creator. Typing in DOSbox produces numbers, with or without Num Lock on (plus, my laptop has an actual number pad). I first came upon this problem in Project64, where my mouse would work fine but all keys other than enter, space, and the arrow keys would only make numbers. I suspect this is related to the issue that the TC has, so I'll link to my post on other forum: http://www.emutalk.net/threads/53101-Keyboard … states?p=441019.

I'm using a Samsung RV511 Laptop running Windows 7.

I think I once got an email from somebody who had the same problem. It was fixed by uninstalling a certain program. I don't remember the name though, but it had something to do with security.

Uninstalling Comcast's Constant Guard worked perfectly! Thanks a ton!

I googled constant guard keyboard problem and dug up this:

It's even so widespread that it's an option on the uninstall survey:

Thanks again!
