Hey, I just found this wonderful program yesterday and got Fantasy Empires up and running. The game goes fine, a little slow, but the problem comes during the battles. With only 1 fighter, the speed is fine, but when multiple troops start showing up on the screen, the speed goes to crap, and eventually locks up. I tried adjusting the Frameskip and CPU cycles, but the does not work. Any suggestions?
1 more thing: How do I switch to fullscreen veiw?

ALT-ENTER = Fullscreen mode, witty key combination, huh? 😎

Or edit the Fullscreen statement in the CONFIGURATION FILE.

You say in your post that you have already tried tinkering with frameskipping and cpu cycles, so the only advise i can offer you is to try running the game in a different way, that is, not using DOSBox (natively or VDMSound) or getting more powerful hardware.

Switch your display to 16 bit, if you had not done it yet (32 bit is slower and 24 bit even worse).
Fullscreen is visibly quicker then windowed mode.
