I downloaded DOSBox, and it works great for a lot of games. For some newer DOS games (i.e. around 1990), emulation in DOSBox is a bit slow. However, the game runs fine natively under Windows, with only one problem: I can't get any sound out of it.

Anyone know of any sound libraries for Windows that emulates the sound capabilities of a Roland MIDI card or a Soundblaster card, so DOS games running natively under Windows can get their sound back?

Thanks,
Rich

Thanks for the tip! Unfortunately, this computer is running Windows ME, which VDMSound's project page says it doesn't yet support.

Any idea if there's something like it for Windows ME, or will I just have to wait for someone to come along and port it (as their project page says)?

There is an unofficiall alpha version of VDMSound for W9x. See VDMSound forums here on VOGONS for more information and download.
Ask any further VDMSound related questions there.
