Straightforward, per the title. I tried setting up different mouse types as recommended here but this was not effective. Also tried Ctrl-F10 to force mouse lock.

The strangest part about this which may be a clue is that I did not have this issue when I was using Ubuntu 16 (either 04 or 10 idk) but since I upgraded to Ubuntu 18.10 it cropped up out of nowhere.

I am running version 0.74-2. I also tried the latest version of the ECE but had the same problem.

0.74-2-2 (in ubuntu/debian) might work better. Can you try the package from Disco Dingo ?
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dosbox/0.74-2-3
or
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dosbox/0.74-2-2

the packages are under the links on the right (under builds)
Not sure though the dependencies are correct though..

I haven't tried this yet but I just noticed the mouse wasn't working with a non-Windows program (Ascendancy, no patches, to be precise). Googling information about why this happened as well suggested setting autolock to false. It worked for Ascendancy and then when I ran Windows 3.11 I had a functioning mouse once again (although very suboptimally because moving the cursor close to the edge of the window tended to result in the pointer returning to overall system control; moreover I was not able to lock the mouse with Ctrl-F10).

Does this help diagnose the issue?

If you look a few posts up to a sticky about mouse capture and Xorg 1.20.x, there's a pretty good chance the problem you have is already identified and fixed, hence the suggested builds.

Thanks. This forum is quite helpful.
