I'm running dosbox in WinXP.
When my Aureal Vortex 8830 sound card is installed and enabled, my system always freezes within 10 seconds of starting DosBox. This happens regardless of what I'm doing (playing games, typing commands, starting at a blank c:\> prompt). If I remove the vortex or disable it in device manager, DosBox works perfectly.
Any ideas?
this happens with 0.62 too.
Try to update your drivers.
I have tried it with the default winxp drivers and a couple different versions of aureal's drivers. the most recent aureal drivers i've found are from 2000.
Just a shot in the dark... Get into bios and look for a setting called "PCI delayed transaction" or something like that. Try disabling it, save changes to bios and see if it cures your problem.
PS - On my ASUS A7V333 is called "PCI 2.1 compliance" instead.
thanks for the suggestion, but "PCI delayed transaction" was already disabled in my bios. i tried dosbox with it enabled and disabled, but it had no effect on the freezing problem.
Yesterday I reinstalled XP and upgraded to SP2 and the problem went away. I'm not sure whether it was SP2 that fixed the problem or if I did something different when installing drivers and apps this time around, but if anyone else runs into this problem, you might want to give SP2 a try.
