i am using dosbox 0.63 on a (very) old Dell Latitude CPi laptop. When I start this version of dosbox i get the error "exit to error: failed to create a rendering output"
What does this error mean? Previous version of dosbox worked fine.

Have you tried setting different rendering modes (ddraw, opengl, overlay, etc.) in dosbox.conf?
i have, they all fail to run.
Maybe your version of DirectX or your video drivers is too old...You didn't give much info about your system.
i'm on direct x 9, but my video card is a very old built in one. it doesnt have any direct draw functionality. that must be the problem.
It's quite possible. If your laptop so old as to not have DirectDraw support, I'd be surprised if it could run DOSBox at a useful speed anyways.
