I get the message "Exit to error: Failed to create a rendering output." Then it just crashes. I don't know anything about computers so any help you can give me will have to be step-by-step. Thanks.
Things to try:
a) Do not run Windows desktop in 256 colors
b) See DOSBOX.CONF, try other settings for output: surface,overlay,opengl,openglnb,ddraw
c) update drivers for your graphic card
d) look on internet for a different SDL.DLL and replace the one in the DOSBOX folder

I got a new SDL and all appeared to be working fine but when I started up the game I was trying to play after I installed it, it said I needed a different soundcard or something. The game i'm trying to play is Are You Afraid of the Dark.
You must configure the sound in almost any DOS game (setup.exe/install.exe/soundset.exe etc.). If you have any other game specific questions, post them into DOSBOX Games/Apps...
