configuring DosBox: Tutorial or direkt help, please.

Hi
iam searching for "a guide for configuring dosbox for my special hardware" does such guide exist?
I mean a tutorial wich says wich core settings i should use and wich cycles settings i should use with my special hardware and so on (athlon xp 2700+ and 1gb RAM).
I know that not evey game or application is running perfectly on dosbox right now even with best configuration, or just with aditional regulation but i have the problem that the dosbox application itself is not running smoothly,
so i thought it would be better to confuguring dosbox first before trying to using it.

Hi,

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't think this sort of guide exists.

The best way to start is :
- to read the Readme,
- to read the DOSBox Wiki Page,
- to experiment different settings on your DOSBox.conf file,
- to browse the forum.

The only advice I can give you is to lower some parameters on your DOSBox.conf :
- don't use too high resolutions in full screen if it's not necessary,
- lower the sample rate of the sound emulation, 22 Khz is a good compromise between performance and quality,
- choose another output video mode, because some of them can slow down the emulation (surface or ddraw are a better choice in this case),
- increase the CPU cycles, but not too high.
And don't forget that some games are too high demanding on resources.
