How come DOSBox has Hercules, CGA, Tandy, and VGA machine modes, but not EGA?

because vga and ega are a like and compatible with each other.

I can't agree. Take the game "Phantom fighter" for instance. There are several "rare" or "tweaked" EGA modes out there.

There may also be games that support EGA but don't let you run in EGA mode if they detect VGA hardware. It may be desirable to have an explicit EGA mode in DOSBox to support these (although I can't think of any off the top of my head).
I have just read on some website that "Bumpy's arcade fantasy" from Loriciels has a better appearance using EGA rather than VGA.
