One game in particular, actually. Inherit the Earth: Quest for the Orb. I installed it off the CD-ROM when I got it, and it worked pretty well. Unfortunately, that was about eight years ago, and sometime in between I managed to lose the CD-ROM. I think I can still use the diskettes, though, so that's not a problem.

This is the problem.

When I type "install", it brings up a list of the drives I have mounted, like so:

I've gone through the guides, at least all the ones I could find, and searched the forums a couple of times ('swhere I found most of the guides, heh.) I'm pretty sure this is not supposed to happen. Can anyone tell me what's going on?

Look at the size of INSTALL.EXE
Is it zero bytes in your host OS, too?

If you're in luck, this works:

Rename FILE0000.CHK to install.exe and try again.

That's /strange/. How on earth can a file be zero bytes?

But yes, it's zero bytes in Windows XP too.

The FAT or file entry got corrupted and a repair utility wrote the lost clusters to file0000.chk back in 1998. If you are in luck, the file0000.chk contains the program that was in install.exe before.

...Apparently I am not in luck. SNAP.

(it keeps telling me 'program failed to run, abort/retry/fail', and I may not know much but I know what that means, especially the sixth time it pops up.)
