My joystick seems to work fine, except that the dead area is fairly large. It won't do fine adjustments, it only moves when the joystick is pushed far over and the cursor moves too fast.

What type of joystick do you have? Analog (old) joysticks tend to be bad for DOSBox while USB ones are way better.
Intel i7 5960X

8 GB DDR4 (2100)
8 GB GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (Gigabyte)
I'm using a Microsoft SideWinder Precision Pro, which is very old and does use a analog connection. However, it did come with a USB adapter, do you think that might be helpful to find?
I don't know. Maybe Qbix or some other knowledgeable person might shed some light on this issue.

uhm is the joystick calibrated correctly within the game.
futher. Try a cvs version as a lot has changed to the joystick code in dosbox. You can find more information about cvs in the development forum.

The AEP build worked like a beauty. Now I just have to tinker till it goes as fast as I think it should.
Any idea why the joystick doesn't work correctly in Crusader: No Remorse/Regret? The Remorse one comes with the attached joystick test program and I can't get it to calibrate correctly.
