Well, not from me either, I must confess... I still don't want to install Windows via boot camp to run speed tests (going to wait until Vista).

However, I have recently downloaded a universal binary of something called SDLMame (some sort of Mame port for OS X). Compared to Mame32, it is also DOG SLOW! I mean, even Bubble Bobble had extreme sound sutter and graphic slowdown, despite me downloading the very lastest universal binary SDL framework (which was a requirement for SDLMame).

This makes me think that something is terribly, terribly wrong with the universal binaries of SDL...

Sounds like you might have better luck running MacMAMW under Rosetta. http://www.macmame.org/

There is no such thing as a Universal binary of SDLMAME. You compile it customized and optimized for your own processor on your own machine. Note that the first release did not enable compiler optimizations, and between that and OpenGL mode the current builds are between 5 and 20 times faster on G5 and Intel Macs - you can run Killer Instinct full speed with sound on an Intel Mac Mini @ 1.66 GHz, for example.

EDIT: I just downloaded an old 1.03 intel build of something called XmameRnSK and it was much faster than the SDLMame from the site above, so I guess something was wrong with that build!

Has there been a resolution to the Intel MacOSX dosbox problems? I have had the same problems with it noted here: very poor performance, and an inability to compile from source (I get the "register clobbered" error). I wish I knew more about OSX development so I could help out. Does the CVS have a patch for the "register clobbered" error? Was the proper fix ever determined?

Will the next official version of dosbox be ppc only? or cross compiled. Is there any news on how to get the dynamic core working right? (which patch to use)

we have almost fixed the dynamic core issue. Some persons are testing the code.
The build will be ppc only again I think. Depends a bit on which people are available/willing to make build when a release is made.

If you need help releasing a Universal Binary Version. I have a Macbook, (2 ghz, 2G ram) and perfectly willing to run xcode on here for you.

Maybe you could write a short mail to the developer address, so Qbix
has the contact information when it might be needed.

I'll try to commit the changes somewhen during the next week,

The latest intel version is 0.63 and it runs my games fine...all except the dynamic core doesn't work when running a game that uses the emulated sound card as it causes Dosbox to crash and so you have to use the normal core instead... dynamic core crashes with this error:

oh also the particular game I was running in the dynamic core that uses the soundcard and caused this crash repeatedly when using the dynamic core is called Jill of the Jungle by epic megagames
