Yeah, virtualisation of qemu is widely varying in quality - I've had amazing speeds with one version, slower-than-emulated with another. Plus it changed depending on software being run. Still, I found it to be at least comparable to DOSBox (at worst).

Vendermarch, you can always run doom with of the myriad ports (zdoom, doomlegacy, doomsday, etc. etc.). Other fps games have ports for xp/2k/etc. as well.

Yeah I know. (ZDoom is the best imho) That wasn't the problem though. I used Doom for example. There are plenty other games I had in mind.
I'm gonna give QEmu a try.
