i've got some trouble with dosbox regarding the german windows keymap. i can't type \ for example, the key seems to have the american mapping assigned to it. this way, i have to switch to the us keymap every time before starting dosbox, which is quite annoying. is it possible to fix this issue?
use / instead of \
and don't use a german keyboard layout 😉
To be honest some keyremapping system is planned, but we still aren't sure on how to do it. (and we haven't started it yet)
(we need a virtual keyboard drawn on the screen on which you can press a key with your mouse and press the key you want on it on the keyboard or so (and start with a fully layout american keyboard offcourse).. Add posiblity to save the mapping. to load it ... blah blah blah

I`ve noticed lately that dosbox seems to be confusing my shift and 1 keys. Whenever in "dos prompt" in dosbox if I push shift a 1 will popup + if I`m attempting to define keys (eg Wolfenstein) which can be very annoying at times.
Try a different version of sdl.dll
