A very annoying problem that I (and others) have noticed is that when a window from a different application becomes active during a Dosbox session, the Dosbox window will often have its graphics frozen in place, or be totally blank, when it is returned to the foreground. The display is returned to normal only by minimizing the window and then maximizing it again. It seems that when the window is inactive for a certain amount of time, the refresh of the graphics is suspended until it gets "reactivated" by being minimized and maximized.

Can anybody shed some light on this, and possibly suggest a solution? Thanks!

Try different output modes. If you don't want the interruptions, kill explorer.

Regarding output modes: Surface doesn't allow scaling, overlay crashes when the screen is locked, opengl blanks out entirely, openglnb gives very low resolution. That leaves ddraw, which causes the refresh problem I'm having.

Killing explorer is not an option, as I need to be able to switch back and forth between applications.
