Qbis: I thought one of the big reasons for the shift (ahem) to 64 bits is to get larger pointers for memory addressing. As for ints, making them all the same size would take all the fun out of it, and if you think that's bad, try dealing with little endian vs. big endian 😉 (not that I have)
