  1. Downloaded BananaCom
  2. Created the following DOSBox configuration file named "modem.conf":
    [modem]
    modem=true
    comport=2
    listenport=23
  3. Launched DOSBox with "-conf modem.conf"
  4. Ran BananaCom (renamed as BCOM.EXE).
  5. Added a new dialer entry: 192.168.1.102.80
    PS: I now know this entry is illegal.
  6. Tried to connect to my new entry.
  7. After a couple of minutes of inactivity, suddenly this dialog box showed up:

    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

    (X) Assertion failed!

    Program: H:\Program Files\DOSBxo\dosbox.exe
    File: ../../include/serialport.h
    Line: 70

IMPORTANT FOLLOW UP:

The failed assertion has NOTHING to do with BananaCom. Seems like I forgot an import step:

You can make it appear in Windows XP by:

1) Enabling modem support in the configuration file.
2) Start DOSBox.
3) Open a TELNET session to 127.0.0.1:23 from the host OS (i.e. Windows XP).
4) Wait a couple of minutes and - BLAM!
