Will DOSBox continue to get slower as more features are added and emulation is improved?

Or is there still plenty that can be optimised? Are features only chewing up cycles when they are actually used (enabled and triggered in the emulation engine).

Also, is there any special reason why a "as fast as possible" mode can't be implemented, where it simply emulates as many cycles with an interval as your host CPU allows, or is this impossible with the current timing and synchornisation code?

Because there is not any proper solution available. PRIESTLYBOY's builds (I do not know whether he still makes them) contain TIMESYNC patch which does something like that but has issues (so it was never integrated). QBIX also made a better version of this some time ago. Again there were problems with it...
Anybody submitting perfect solution for this is welcome (I mean a *real* solution, not hack working in some games and causing problem in others).
