Qbix, how often is that CVS tarball updated? I usually pull the files straight from sourceforge's CVS server, since MSYS (my compiling environment) includes a cvs client.

Also, this changelog still seems to be current: http://pcnwstage.phys.rug.nl/dosboxcvs.txt

the builds themself I don't know. Xtale attempts to do it weekly

the source + log is updated twice a day from the developer cvs tree and a configure/makefile is created for the people without automake/autoconf

I had to setup the compileenvironment again 😒
I updated the build, and I think i used some more compiler optimizations than before.

Maybe anyone could confirm that the new build is faster than the old ones.

I just tried the new 5-9-05 compile. My keyboard's shift keys wouldn't respond when playing Epic Pinball. Also, my display in Windows 98 wouldn't switch back to 1024x768/32-bit. It would stay in the game's 640x480/8-bit after exit. No problem with the older compile's.

I don't know how to build the thing from source files, so I can't say if it's been fixed by something later. I depend upon getting the package to put into the dosbox folder.

Strange, works for me on WinXP Pro.

I noticed, however, that the mousecursor in the CVS build by cvscompile.aep-emu.de is not hidden while running Epic Pinball, while 0.63 hides the mouse as long as it is not being moved.

Regards,

Ronald

Yes, the mouse cursor stays on the screen for me with the 5-9-05 CVS as well.

I installed the 4-10-05 CVS compile and that works fine. I think I missed the 4-25-05 one as I can't find it on any of my cdr's. (I burn anything I download. It helps, as I think I qualify for frequent format dollars!)

ok - seems to be some problems with the last build.
the resolution problem was mentioned in my forum too, see http://www.aep-emu.de/index.php?name=PNphpBB2 … iewtopic&t=1436

I don't know if my build is broken (maybe because of too many optimizations), or if the CVS is broken.

I'll update the builds on sunday, offering a few builds with diffrent optimizations - maybe we find out what the problem is 😉

I think about keeping the old releases online too, if there's some need for it.

My builds are not that popular, according to the downloadcounter, but it seems that I've some people that come weekly to get them (I get lots of complains, once i do not update the build 😉).
Maybe I'll expand the DosBox builds, for example offering builds with patches like HQ2x applied.

Well just so you know Xtale, I tend to refer many people to your page and tell them your builds can fix many issues with the current stable. 😊 Not sure how many take my word on it. 😅

XTale, what is -pope? Did you mean -pipe? I use pretty much the same options and they work pretty well:

./configure --enable-core-inline CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O3 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer"

The only one I see you do that I don't is -funroll-all-loops. It might be better to let the compiler decide which loops to unroll?

yes, was -pipe (missed the right key 😉)

I uploaded a build using the old libs - maybe sdl stuff is broken

That could be it too. Did you edit the DirectX file(s) in the SDL sources so that hardware surfaces are used in ddraw mode? SDL forces software surfaces by default.

Alright!

I tried the latest build (5-21-05 old) and the shift keys are working as well as the desktop display returning to proper settings after the game exit's.

So I think that it must have been something in the newer ways to compile since the latest version you compiled with the old libraries on your computer works fine.

Thanks!

hm.. damn.. looks like a fucked up sdl

@Hunter
nope - didn't edit anything 😉

I'll have a deeper look - any games beside epic-pinball where I can see easily the differences?

I've got a relatively new 98SE install going here and haven't gotten into heavy "installing games" mode yet. I just installed Epic Pinball to test Dosbox's running and will get back to other games on it later on. So, that's the only game I can say had problems. I'd imagine that the shift keys and returning the correct display should work about the same whatever the game. (Am I wrong?)

However, just alt-entering should show the screen not going back to the normal display size (even the taskbar dissapears and I must right click and go into Display Properties to change it from 640x480 8-bit (the mode Dosbox leaves it in) to the mode it was before running Epic Pinball (1024x768 32-bit). And, try some pinball game you may have and see if you can control it with the shift keys. Those were the 2 things I noticed not working properly, but now do with your using the old way.

I guess I'd have to install the version that didn't work right and test some more games to be able to tell you which ones didn't work, but do the old way. Are you saying you've tested your games and haven't noticed this? A couple of other posters have noticed at least the display problem.

I just gave Epic Pinball (shareware) a try:
- controlling with shift-key works
- leaving dosbox after playing in fullscreen resets the displaysize correctly

--> the builds work for me -- not that easy to test
