Once we have a good group of candidates mabye we could put the icons up to a vote? At the very least we could see how much of the DosBox fans have bad taste. :D

DosFreak: Sounds like a good idea, but preferably in a poll thread containing images of each of the icons so I can be lazy and not have to download them before viewing them.

Hey Avatar....Didn't MS-DOS have a different colors for the DOS? I'm probably thinking of something else, also dunno if it would be appropriate to use the MS coding scheme or not.

Somehow I doubt DOSBox developers would like to use the Microsoft DOS logo :P

Oh and
P.S. Qbix, I'd appreciate your opinion on my icon idea, if you like it I can improve it. If you have comments or other ideas I'll also gladly do my best.

Thats why I avoided doing so. :sweatdrop: I wasn't quite sure if that particular logo was copyrighted or something so I wasn't about to use it as reference. Maybe someone could find out?

It's an official logo of a commercial software, therefor it's most likely copyrighted. And even if it isn't, this would be so unoriginal and boring.

The space inside the "O" is transparent (i.e. you can view the desktop through it)

Nice one. I would just change a color bit so that there would be bigger contrast between the picture and the text (the text is not very visible unless looking on the icon in detail).

Being lazy, I've always used this icon which is supplied with Windows. I just like the 5 1/4 " floppy disk.

Don't think we can use an MS icon so it would have to be a custom created floppy icon.

Here it is in some more colors.

Maybe you shouldn't use that hole in the middle :disapproving: Those of us that prefer dark wallpapers will see black underneath and it would look like a solid black circle rather than an O.

I'm trying to do a rendition of that type of icon but I can't get a good looking version :sweatdrop:

Good work! I like the yellow one most. I think darker colors make it worse.

ChaosFish: your fist dosboxicon-idea.png was the best one.

I also like avatar_58's dosboxico.zip very much.

If I had to choose between these two it would be very difficult :(

And here's another try. Without a hole in the O this time ;)
I'd like to hear more comments and ideas so I can improve it or even make a different better one :)

Edit: also attached in icon format
