World Rally Fever seems to be a right pain to get working in DOSBox. Apart from the original CD version (though I have the Sold Out budget version) failing to run as it can't find MSCDEX 2.1, the game seems to play strangely inside DOSBox, either too fast and eventually crashing, or too slow, or a combination of both! I suspect it's doing some fancy trickery as it is a 1995 DOS game.

Would any of the authors be interested in a copy of the Sold Out budget vesion I have? I'd gladly post you a copy for you to study if you don't have one, as the MSCDEX failing might prove useful to study for DOSBox accuracy, let alone the quirky game speed issues.

If any of the dev team are interested please PM me.

Note: I'm not running a copy off for anyone else! There's a perfectly useable abandonware/pirate rip out there! I have to use it myself to get past the MSCDEX issue...

I just thought I'd bump this topic as with DOSBox 0.72 I still cannot run the game without the child error/MSCDEX, no matter what setting I use for CD-ROM emulation. Search for "fever" for more posts on this topic on the forum.

The only way to make it run is by using the EXE files from the warez/hacked copy that is maybe still on some abandonware sites. However using those means that no CD music plays in the game, which reduces the fun!

It seems the MSCDEX check is much more strict in this game. So again if anyone on the DOSBox team would like me to rip the CD and send it to them to investigate further I gladly will.

Thank you!

I don't think any of the DOSBox authors will accept an illegal copy of a game, not even for testing purposes. If you look closely at the posts in this this forum, you'll notice very quickly that everything "abandonware" or warez related is not welcome on VOGONS.

I didn't try the game yet, but maybe there's a way to fix the problems you're seeing. Did you try creating an image of the cd and mounting it with the "imgmount" command? If the game's cd contains redbook audio, you have to create a BIN/CUE image, and mount the CUE.

World Rally Fever is fixed in new CVS compile of DOSBox thanks to this update:

* MSCDEX sets word on stack to ADAD if it DADA on entry.

Thank you to QBix for looking at the problem, and wd for support too!
