I'm currently trying to play through Shadowgate (DOS), to pass the time while waiting for the new version of the game (kickstarter backer).

But I'm having a major problem. The game crashes when I have to type something (which you have to do when you either try to cast a spell or save).

In dosbox 0.63 the game is playable, but instead I get incredibly dull/dark colours.

Are you using the machine=cga setting? It might seem unrelated to the keyboard, but there are some differences with standard vs. enhanced key handling.

Typing in the game is working for me with machine=cga.

Note that the keyboard issue applies to some other Icom games as well.

I'm having a similar issue with Shadowgate. My PC has Windows 8. When I click speak it doesn't let me type and the screen freezes. Also, I can't get pass the EPOR part. It doesn't let my use the "EPOR" spell.
