Hello. For me, midi works fine in dosbox...as long as the game doesn't require allegro. For some reason, games that require allegro don't work with midi, only with FM or (possible, but untested) Ultrasound. Why? What can I do to fix this? If nothing can be done, is there a way to run gus mode with freepats?

Perhaps you could name the specific games you are having problems with?

Also, how are you differentiating between "FM" and "MIDI" ?

FM=Adlib/Soundblaster
MIDI=General Midi

The games i tested this on were zelda classic 1.90 and boom 2.02.

I tried BOOM 2.02 and had no trouble getting it to use MIDI with default settings in DOSBox 0.74. Started out with no pre-existing BOOM.CFG or ALLEGRO.CFG files and ran ASETUP.EXE to configure Allegro. I chose SB16 digital with autodetect (-1) for port, IRQ, and DMA; and chose MPU-401 MIDI with autodetect (-1) for port. The digital sound had swapped stereo channels, so I manually edited ALLEGRO.CFG to have flip_pan = 1.

Oh. I was supposed to use mpu-401 instead of "digital midi". OK.

edit:One more question... in the timidity config file, what does "Patch sets used with Timidity should work fine." mean for GUS? Does that mean I can use freepats somehow? If so...how?
