Seems to work fine here, default dosbox settings.
Try to re-install the game, change the sound settings
or something like that.
Must've been a corrupt install, I downloaded the game again (it's freeware, see), and yeah, it works. A lot faster than 0.63 by the way. Joy!

Maybe you can compare the old and new installed files to see what
has gone wrong.
Using the Plasma bomb at the beginning of the game gives me a Exit to error: IRET:Illegal descriptor type 0 (as soon as the bomb drops on "ground")
Does not happen with other weapons you can buy at start.
Normal and Dynamic core. 0.65.
GUS and Soundblaster.
Reinstall didn't help. Neither loadfix.

Doesn't crash here, using daum's CVS build... could you post your config?
I can't get the joystick working for longer than a couple of seconds though, I calibrate in the options menu, works, pretty much immediately afterwards the calibration is 'lost' and the controls go haywire. Keyboard or mouse control no issues.
For the joystick problem try the dosbox exe file from the Wing Commander III joystick thread. My dosbox.conf is the default except for cycles and core and autoexec.

Hm, seems to be fully playable with the weapon you mentioned,
but i only got the shareware version.
ok their patch001.exe fixes it.

Well the game's freeware now..
I can't get the game speed right though, using either normal or dynamic core,
auto or manual cycles... it's either very slow or very fast.
