Hm can't it be loaded with "dos4gw game.exe" ?
Hm can't it be loaded with "dos4gw game.exe" ?
Yes. I think you can too.
Intel i7 5960X
Gigabye GA-X99-Gaming 5
8 GB DDR4 (2100)
8 GB GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (Gigabyte)
Hmm, I already thought I updated to ver1.1.
Regardless, I downloaded and updated again.
Seems nothing changes except I get a funky new FILE_ID.diz file.
Oh well.
Additionally, I downloaded the DOS4GW.exe thingie.
What do I do with it?
And what is "Dos4gw game.exe"?
I mean, I appreciate the help and assistance, really I do.
But, I'm kinda confused by the suggestions..
As I said, forgive my Noobness. 😁
GOONGALA~!!!
Well instead of typing "name-of-the-game-executable.exe"
you type "dos4gw195 name-of-the-game-executable.exe" if
dos4gw195 is the (renamed or whatever) dos4gw.exe ElPusher posted.
I haven't changed its name so it would be:
C:\THUNDER\>dos4gw.exe main.exe
(make sure main executable is main.exe or if you invoke game using a BAT file, just edit the proper line using notepad.)
Intel i7 5960X
Gigabye GA-X99-Gaming 5
8 GB DDR4 (2100)
8 GB GeForce GTX 1070 G1 Gaming (Gigabyte)
Hmm....
Okay, I extracted the Dos4gw.exe file and placed it in my
game folder, then executed "C:\THUNDER\>dos4gw.exe main.exe"
I got the line:
"DOS4GW fatal error (1008): can't load executable format
for file MAIN.EXE [1]"
I editted my THUNDER.BAT by changing to:
"DOS4GW.EXE MAIN.EXE -pE:\thunder %1 %2 -t"
I still got the fatal error message.
Oh, and I still get the same crash after patching.
GARGH~! 🤐
GOONGALA~!!!
DOH~! I am so stupid..
Seriously.. all I did was turn off music
and *POOF* everything becomes exceptionally smooth.
I tried playing it on max cycles and it works~!
'Course, when I turn music back on
the thing gives me the same DOS/4GW professional error crash thingie.
I am SO DUMB~! *bangs head repeatedly on table*
Still, there's no music now...
Oh well.. guess I'll just have to play
without the snazzy soundtrack. 😒
GOONGALA~!!!
The readme file states this game uses RedBook CD Audio. You may try doing a CUE/BIN image from original CD and mount it use imgmount under DOSBox.

Hmm... when i'm trying to install my copy of Thunderscape (oryginal cd) i got this error. Anyone know what it is?

Is e:\gryo writable?
Maybe some quirk in a bat file or lousy installation routine. Have you tried installing the game from NTVDM first and then setup sound and play using DOSBox?

Yes, e:\gryo is writable. When i'm installing the game from NTVDM everything is fine, i mean install procedure. Is it some kind of DosBox bug?
edit: yeah, like i thought... This Kaeriel's problem is connected to mine installation bug. Kaeriel, just check the size of your game directory. If you choose installation C, Thunder directory should be around 72 mb size. I bet it is less than that. Game don't have sounds installed, so it lags when it use them (in fights).
When you install the game in windows, put it in your games for dosbox directory and change cdrom drive letter in thunder.bat it should work fine.
I hope you'll understand my english 😜

Yeah I had your problem too, Xerxes.
When you use DosBox to install the game,
the game has a problem copying some files over.
(mostly the cinematics and sound files)
And, i would like to apologise to everyone else
for wasting your time with my stupidity.
Particularly to wd and eL_PuSHeR for your trouble. 😢
Xerxes, I THINK I kinda understand your english. 😅
And I think that's what I did,
'coz when I found the sound files missing
I went to re-install through REAL Dos
then just moved the folder.
I still can't get Music to play without
crashing the whole thing though... 😒
Ah well....
GOONGALA~!!!
I get music playing by making cue/bin cdimage and mounting them in daemon tools (with analog audio enabled). 😀

Yeah, I tired mounting a CUE/BIN image of my CD.
Somehow it'll crash the game every couple of saves.
BAH~ 😖
I apologise again for my stupidity and ignorance.
GOONGALA~!!!
I made a couple of saves/loads myself and it didn't crash. Maybe it's a problem with your cd image. I made mine using alcohol 120% (clonecd format) and i've transformed it to cue/bin using UltraIso.

Okay,
I tried making several .CUE/.BIN images.
The music plays fine now~!
Yeay~!
My sincere thank you and appreciation
to all the contributors of this thread,
especially wd, eL_PuSHeR and Xerxes.
For putting up with my ignorant foolishness.
(I'm still kicking myself over
the not-thinking-about-turning-off-the-music thing.)
THANK YOU FORUMS~!!
GOONGALA~!!!
Glad to hear you have sorted out your problems. You are welcome.

Greetings. I also have a problem with Thunderscape, though a more intricate one, I think. The problem is that game does not keep the state of the accomplished levels, and loads previously passed levels from scratch when I return to them. Since the player can reach the level 6 only by first returning to the level 1, the game becomes impassable (the teleporter that must be opened already is still closed). Patching or reinstalling the game does not help. I also noted that savegame folders do not contain files LEVELxx.DAT, that reportedly should be there. The system I am running the game on is: Duron 2800+, 1Gb RAM, GeForce 6100Integr, 80 Gb NTFS, WinXP SP2. I use DOSBox 0.72 with D-Fend Reloaded, but I also tried other builds: CVS 07.05.2008 and DosBox ykhwong build - to no avail.
What bewilders me even more is the fact that I have run the same copy of Thunderscape previously on weaker systems without any such problems. Could this strange bug be connected with DOSBox? What should I do to make the game passable?
I don't think I'll get a reply here, but the discussion seemed to be one of the most helpful I've seen.
I'm getting the error "Could not load mouse.shp"
I did the THSCA11 update which fixed other errors I was getting.
