Hi,
DOSBox (both Windows and Mac versions) seems to have a problem with using General MIDI to play music on the CD version of Sam & Max Hit the Road. Most of the time, if the music setting is configured for General or Roland MIDI, the program crashes on startup. However, it has no problem with the other (and unfortunately, lower quality) music options. A fix of some sort would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

works fine here oO, but i got the windows version which just used a special scummvm version. i updated to the latest scummvm and it still works fine.

im aware this thread is about dosbox which thusly makes what i said above completely irrelevant.

dosbox version?

My bad; it's .72, the newest.

On real machines this problem occurs with fast CPUs. Maybe lowering the cycles helps when starting the game in DOSBox.

How does one go about lowering the cycles, if I may ask?

Hehe, yeah, hadn't really read the readme before. Anyway, changed the cycles, and the thing still didn't work too well. Franpa, funny I had never tried running the game with ScummVM: that worked like a charm (with the sound set to CoreAudio, that's about as good as General MIDI via the game's setup, at least as far as I can tell). Problem solved! Thanks, everyone!

default settings with scummvm should be the best settings. else why have game dependent profiles?
