cputype isn't in DOSBox 0.72. It is in the latest CVS. If you download the latest CVS then you'll need to recreate your DOSBox.conf with the "config -wc dosbox.conf".

Otherwise you'll still be using the DOSBox.conf from DOSBox 0.72.

You can't guess with IO/IRQ/DMA settings for DOS games. Hardware and emulators may have different settings for the norm. If you are using a SoundBlaster 16 in DOSBox then the settings are:

IO: 220
IRQ: 7
DMA: 1
HDMA: 5

Using 5 will get you nowhere unless you modified DOSBox.conf for that value.

And you are sure you created that file? Please explain how you are sure that you created it.

yup ,just like dosfreak said by typing "config -wc dosbox.conf" in Dosbox CVS prompt (AEP Build) strange ! 😕

That is not proof that you created it.
If, on the other hand, you

1) Used Windows Explorer to verify that the file did NOT exists.
2) Launched DOSBox.
3) Used Windows Explorer to verify that the file still didn't exists.
4) Used the config command in DOSBox to create the file.
5) Used Windows Explorer to verify that the file now was there.
6) Used Windows Explorer to check the creation date = today.

then I would be inclined to believe you when you said you created it. But anything less, and I will claim that all you are seeing is an old file that has been there since I was a baby.

In other words: You are claiming that your operating system allows you to

1) Delete a file
2) Create a new file
3) But does not allow you to change it

That is a very weird operating system with some very weird (and impractical) restrictions.

OMG! it worked finally 😎

nothing wrong with Dosbox.conf that i made , just didn't notice that you Must type word "FIXED" before the Numbers in "Cpucycle"
FORGIVE MY NOOBISH 🤣

i set Cputype to pentium tho but if you going to pick 386_prefetch then you MUST set core to NORMAL 😀

In other words: You could modify the file?

Hello everyone.
Yesterday i tried to work this game and discover this site. Thanks to your instructions i managed to work this game. However i don't have sound in the game.

The values in the CONFIG.EXE of the game and dosbox.conf are different. May be this is the reason.

The values in the CONFIG.EXE are these:

SFX Card in Use: Sound Blaster 2.0
Music Card in Use: Sound Blaster 2.0
SFX Defaults:
-IO Address: 0220h
-IRQ: 05
-DMA Channel: 01
-DMA IRQ: -1
Music Defaults:
-IO Address: 0220h
-IRQ: 05
-DMA Channel: 01
-DMA IRQ: -1

What do i need to get sound in the game?
May be i should change something about sound in the dosbox.conf but i am not good at using computer so i don't know what should be changed.

Thanks to everyone who shows interest

P.S: If i change the values of CONFIG.EXE the game doesn't work

First try if setting IRQ to 7 from CONFIG.EXE really won't work. Leave all other settings alone, they are already correct. I'd suggest quitting and restarting CONFIG.EXE afterwards to check that the new value was really accepted.

If that really doesn't help, go to the [sblaster] section of dosbox.conf and change the line that says irq=7 to irq=5. Leave the rest alone.

In CVS dosbox you can simply type "irq" at the Z:\> or C:\> prompt to check that the value was really accepted by dosbox. I'm not sure if this was already possible with the last release version.

Edit: make sure to set *both* IRQ values to 7 in CONFIG.EXE in the first step above.

Before i wrote my message i had changed some of other settings so the game hadn't worked.

Now i changed only the setting you said and it works well.

Thanks a lot.

In fact i did not hope such a quick answer. Thank you very much.

Just to let people know, the CONFIG.EXE did work for me, using release 0.74, Macintosh version.
Thanks for the great work.
