I have been able to get multiple dos games running (mostly using a frontend, but not always), but I fail to revive my favorite Archimedean Dynasty.

Installing using Dosbox works (and to my surprise also using XP but nevermind). However, afterwards the game fails to start. Neither standart nor 3DFX work, both crash giving me a FileOpenError trying to read something on the CD. (I mounted D using the frontend before starting).

CD is flawless.

Maybe I did forget something? Step by Step walkthrough anyone?

Read my 60 Seconds Guide to DOSBox (and don't just read it - follow it too).

If that doesn't help, come back with details on how you mounted your C and D drives, how you did the install, how you configured sound, music etc.

nothing new, installs as planned.

Using fronted, it doesn't open. Mounting everything manually, it opens (gives me the joystick configue screen) and crashs when trying to save the config.

Why is it so hard to read??

Possible solution for op:

copy all directories from cd to your ad dir (DAT,DEV,GFX,SFX,TXT,VFX) and just overwrite the old files. This enables you to play without the cd (my version has no cd-check). Then run setup from dosbox and configure the sound. You may want to download the update as well. Then run with AD2.exe or ADD4G2.exe

Over to my own problem; I get this beautiful game to run very good overall - smooth graphics, mouse, joystick, some crackling sound during cutscenes but the 3d-action runs flawlessly. The problem is that the game crashes frequently AFTER the mission finishes (probably during transition from 3D to 2D). I am using the ADD4G2.exe which uses the DOS4GW DosExtender. If I can't get this beauty to work I might have to dig up an old PII-233 with a voodoo2.....

Edit: after some more testing I have found that the game runs much smoother in windowed mode than in full-screen. No cracking sound and skipping between transitions. I haven't been able to recreate a crash when running in windowed mode either..... 😐

Edit 2: After some digging in the config file I found that setting
"fulldouble=true" removes any sound cracking and no crashes after some testing 😎

exactly like in the step by step:
C: "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\Elias.PC_VON_ELIAS\Eigene Dateien\DOSBox stuff\SF"
D: "D:\"

I did not configure sound nor video so far. It installs, it quits. Then, I start the game, the joystick thing starts, I configure the joystick, it crashes when trying to save the config.

We tried wd, we really tried. I told him to follow my guide and he choose to ignore it. In return I say we ignore him.

well I mounted it as cdrom using the Drive D. Mounting as a CDrom does work via -t cdrom doesn't it?

EDIT: Oh crap, now I know what you are refering too. I didn't write the t cdrom in my previous post.
Well 😜 , I did mount it as D "D:\" -t cdrom, evidence for that is that I managed to install the thing correctly.

I currently have the same problem as Captain Amazing. I installed AD in DosBOX and patched it there. Then I replaced the dos4gw.exe by dos32a.exe (otherwise I got the crash described here: Archimedean Dynasty)

Now the game runs smoothly and I get into the first battle, destroy the ship and then autopilot becomes available, so I press alt+a, first the water darkens and then the whole screen. But then before the next scene the game freezes. As output I always get:

I tried the following to fix the problem:
fulldouble=true (as suggested by Captain Amazing)
Fixed cycles and disabling stuff as suggested in the readme.
Disabled sound (in config and with setsound)
Fullscreen and Window Mode

With the normal ad2 I get a crash due to the Causeway extender.

I was trying the whole day yesterday so maybe anybody got a solution here. If you need more information please let me know and I'm happy to provide it.

Thanks in advance,
Schoki

Edit: I also played an Instant Action game, worked perfectly fine and returned to the menu as planned.
