Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a way to save games in the 1984 PC booter version of King's Quest 1 using DOSBox v.073.

I have tried using KQ1's ingame "copy disk" command which presumably creates a new PLAY disk, but it doesn't work for me. I have simply copied the original image KQ1.IMG to a new one (KQ1_PLAY.IMG) and booted both, but when I switch disks when prompted in DOSBox (Ctrl-F4), the game says it can't be formatted (see screenshot). I guess that I need to use another image for the play disk...

Does anybody have any suggestions how to create a play disk? I have found a few reference to this problem in the forums, but nobody seems to have had any solution.

Thanks in advance!

Just copying the IMG file is enough. That's all the "copy disk" command does, really. The play disk is identical to the master disk when it is created. Only when saving a game does it get altered (in a way that it no longer boots -- which is what you need the master disk for).
