I dont want full screen; i cannot figure out how to resize .74 ver sosbox window?
seems like it should be config lines:
windowresolution=original I tried 2, 4, 800x600, 200x400 no changes
output=overlay (since says wont work with default surface whatever this means)

you're right about these lines 😁 .
I've done this with the dosbox 0.70 but this are the same lines.
The first part of the config looks like this:
fullscreen=false
fulldouble=false
fullresolution=320x200
windowresolution=320x200
output=overlay
...
and the dosbox looks like shown in the jpeg.

What exactly are you trying to do?
You can set the desired resolution in dosbox.conf (e.g. windowresolution=1024x768 or whatever else). Maybe you'll have to try different output methods (try opengl or ddraw), but that's quite self-explanatory if you look into the conf-file itself.
If for some weird reason DOSBox starts up in fullscreen, all you need to do is either press ALT-Enter, or set fullscreen=false in the conf-file.
