i'm going to play this old game....i was able to get it working with DosBox
but it seems that the save game option does not work
any ideas?

Well, you can't save everywhere - go find an sanctuary.
This game runs fine in DosBox. If you have further problems, you are probably better off searching the internet for gameplay hints, solutions, FAQs, etc.
