Under the HMI Sound Configuration Setup Utility (Dagger's Setup.exe)

  • If I select Midi->MT-32->Test I get "ERROR: Midi song did not initialize."
  • If I select MPU-401 instead, it will play through the Roland.
  • If I select MT-32 AFTER playing via MPU-401, without leaving the program in-between, it works and sounds a LOT better than the MPU-401 setting.
  • Regardless, if I launch Daggerfall while it is set to MT-32, it crashes with "Daggerfall has detected the error 117." as soon as it tries to play music.

I am using an old (no headphone jack) Roland MT-32, with an no-name e-bayed USB/Midi adapter, which seems to work fine in Ultima 6 and Ultima 7(Both in DOSBOX and Exult).

Other system specs: Windows 7(64bit), 16GB RAM, i5 2500k processor.

Any idea on bypassing the issue? Is the problem my cheap USB/Midi adapter, or is this a known problem?

You ever figure this out? I tried adding the midi ports in setup.ini to the MT-32 entry, but it does not help at all and I think loadpats.exe is specifically for GUS so completely different. Having the exact same issue as you though. In setup it works if I select sound canvas or mpu-401 first, but errors in game 117.
