The sound in wolfenstein 3d is fine until you open a few doors or just play for a few minutes then the sound starts getting jumpy. Anyone else notice this behavior?

Okay, I tried running dosbox as root, and this fixes the problem. Very strange. I guess I'll just suid root the dosbox executable for a work-around. Anyone else have this problem and know what could be causing it. Strange that it works for root but not a normal user.

look at Xfree86.0.log for hints on what X wants to be faster

e.g. mtrr support in the kernel
futher display depth X 16 bpp

in dosbox try setting scaler=none.
frameskip=1
see if it improves.

I run linux myself and somehow X has sometimes trouble of processing all the screen updates.

I tried messing with the scaler options, the game runs really fast, just the sound gets lagged. I think it must be a KDE thing. Anyway I just set up my icon to run dosbox as root, and this seems to fix all the sound problems ive been having so I'm satisfied. 😎
