Usually that means there is some sort of sound error. There are quite a few possible causes not limited to the ones below.
First have you set up the game and drivers properly. From the game directory (assuming it's not a cd version)try running install and using the Sound Blaster/Ad Lib for sound and music since dosbox emulates that as opposed to whatever you are using. For the CD version I found I had to use the install from off the CD.
Next you could try to make sure that all the directories in the RESOURCE.CFG are pointing to the right spots.
If you are using the cd version you should probably make sure to use the "mount -t cdrom X PATH" where X is the drive will be mounted as and PATH is where the cd really is.
If you are using the disk version that game absolutely needs patches. I think you can get them from ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/patches/pc

have you tried adding/modifying the audiosize setting in resource.cfg ?

1audiosize=45k

Was suggested for GK1 recently. GK can produce the same error if the value is any higher.
