Hey guy's sorry if this sounds stupid but I am new to DosBox. I am trying to get Tilt! to run but every time it says testing drive E: Cd not ready then pinball cd not found. I have mounted my cdrom as drive E:\ as I have two hard disks C and D nad then mounted the tilt directory as mount c c:\tilt but still no luck. Can anyone tell me where I am going wrong and tell me exactly what to type to get this game running. I am running WinXP Pro SP1. Many thanks Bilbo

-label <label> allows specifying a label for the cd-rom in use, for some games require it as security measure. For example, your cd-rom is labelled game_disk so you will mount it as:

mount d d:\ -t cdrom -label game_disk

Assuming D is the drive letter you want to use as CD-ROM.

Just a remainder: RTFD

You could always run Tilt! with VDM sound
Get the Fix2 zip
Setup the soundcard in dosbox but dont test, copy HMISET.CFG over to C:\tilt
Set vdm shortcut for tilt.bat
Dont use fast mode and everything will cook 😀

Hello!

Can you explain these steps more exactly please? i am a very greenhorn in vdm sound and have the same problem to get Tilt! started.
i did (i hope!) what you explained above, but i still got the message "no cd drives present" when i start Tilt! with vdm sound.

so what i did:
- installed tilt and vdm sound to my harddisk
- start tilt.bat with right-click on it and use "run with vdm sound"
- a dos box window opened and the error message appeared.

maybe you can help me get this very good old dos game working under win xp?

what do you mean with "get the fix2.zip" and "set vdm shortcut for tilt.bat" in your post?

thanks a lot for your explanations!

bye, vb

I haven't attempted this in DOSBox yet, but when I try on a Win98 machine I keep getting an error telling me that UniVBE not installed, even though it is.

So ignoring that, how can I get this to run through DOSbox under XP? Like the above poster I am new to this, so would appreciate some help.

Thanks

Hi,

got the same problem with Tilt! - it wont work with DosBox or VDMSound. 😕

It still not found the cd. With DOS-Box i tried all combinations to mount cd, so it can't be a syntax mistake....

So, if it works with VDMSound, like u said - here it doesn't work 😒 Tried it the same like the post above me and have still the same response....

Checked autoexec for VDMSound - but doesn't help
(REM Install CD ROM extensions - to enable, uncomment the line immediately below:
lh %SystemRoot%\system32\mscdexnt.exe)

Is somebody out there, who has finished a installation and would explain it again here ? 😉

thanx

Tilt does indeed work with Dosbox 0.62. I downloaded Dosbox after hearing about it in a magazine - I gave up all hope of ever playing old games on my XP Pro computer and jumped for joy when I heard of DB 😁 .
I was having similar problems with Tilt and looked on this forum for answers - after finding no real solution I simply refused to give up and this morning I got TIlt working 🤣 .
This is how I did it:
*My cd drive is F - replace the 'F' with your cd drive letter*
Type into Dosbox (using capitals where shown):
mount f F:\ -t cdrom -usecd F -ioctl
type in "intro cdrom" to bring up this command in Dosbox.
mount your hard drive also and this should work fine.
I tried VDMSound with no luck and the above is the only real solution I found.

Good luck 😎 .

Hi Mortified 😀 ,

thanx for your help ! Reading your post gave me hope... 😊

"Type into Dosbox (using capitals where shown):
mount f F:\ -t cdrom -usecd F -ioctl "
--> no prob

"mount your hard drive"
--> no prob

--> still doesnt work 😳

***********************
Here a step for step listing !:

"mount -cd"
CDROMS found:2
0. D:\
1. E:\

"mount e e:\ -t cdrom -usecd 1 -ioctl"
--> ok

"mount c f:\oldgame\tilt"
(f:\oldgame\tilt = Installation Path from Tilt --> same problem with using 'f:\' only)
--> ok

"c:" "tilt"
--> error
"c:\ runcd C:/TILT
TILT! Pinball CD...

No CD drives present!

A:\P" 🙁

******
Why Dosbox jumps after error to "A:\P" ?? - think it is not important for unning Tilt...

Could u help to geeting tilt run on XP ?

greets Wolf

Hi Wolf,
you have probably tried this - but where you typed in "-usecd 1";
have you tried "-usecd E" after your drvie designation?

Failing this I really don't know what else you can try 😕

Just a thought though; my game is just called "Tilt" - not Hyper 3D Pinball - it might just be a different version of the game.

Regards 😀

Mort.

Got "Tilt" - "Hyper 3D Pinball" was called from Thread-Owner...

You installed "Tilt" to hardisk from XP or from DOS-Box ? Think it's not very important, cos in both variations it doesn't work on my comp...

Still hoping... 😁
