I just heard about and downloaded 0.61 (last version as of now) of Dosbox
with the hopes of it running the now classic, Under A Killing Moon game from
Access Software.

The game installed, however when I tried to run it, DOS/4GW
dumped. 😢 😢
(I have added a screen shot of the dump.)

I'm hoping that in the future this will be supported...

Great work so far!

A wild guess... The screen shows version 1.95 of DOS4/GW. The most common version (to my knowledge), is v. 1.97. I have no idea if this can work, but if you have 1.97 on some other game CD, perhaps you can start the 1.97 version manually, and then start Moon afterwards? With luck it will detect that 1.97 is already running, and will not start 1.95.

No problem!!!! Just read the C:\Moon\ReadMe.txt and follow the instructions for copying TEX197.Exe from the CD over the Tex3.Exe on the C:\Moon directory, and you are all set (well, I got sound configured, the intro ran, and I was able to exit back to DOS).

Now it is my turn to ask a question: Why didn't you read the ReadMe before posting here? Too lazy?

Yes, you lazy user, you should have known, that with a new version of DOSBox the usual UAKM glitches + troubleshoting guide for the game started finally working too. 😁
To MiniMax: I know, that would be better if all the questions were asked the smart way, but I also agree with firestorm225.

😒 regarding your post, I for one, read the readme, downloaded the 197 and installed the file. Now I can't even get the Access startup screen to work. All I get is a black screen!!!. At least before my only problem was no sound.

I'm using an AMD athlon 2200, G4 TI4200 with 700+ Meg Ram, an SB Audigy card with Videologic 5.1 sound system.

So, what's the problem?????

Just to be sure, I fired up my DOSBox & Moon. No problems. All DOSBox settings to default, except for cpu.cycles=8000 and render.frameskip=1.

Hi I was interested in your mentioning the reduction in CPU and Frameskip. on Altering this in my version of DosBox (V. 6.0 btw) the access intro worked almost perfectly and the sound was pretty good too. In getting thus far, another problem has arisen. The fact is, it won't let me change the disks when required.

The CD Swap window opens telling what it wants me to do but no matter what disk I put in (even returning the original one to the drive), it just sits there asking me to put the disk in (I have to dos-out, so to speak). I haven't managed to check any other posts to see if someone has (and has solved) this problem but whilst I'm doing so if you know that answer to this problem also I'd be most grateful.

Thanks for all your help thus far.

I hope someone will prove me wrong, but I think the problem with changing CD's and diskettes are a common problem with DOSBox - at least on some platforms. I think it is related to DOSBox caching the directory entries on the media (hence the need for the built-in RESCAN command in DOSBox).

You might get DOSBox to notice the media change if you use the right combination of '-t cdrom -ioctl -usecd 0', etc on you CD mounts - with the best chance on a Windows host.

Please let us if it works.

😢 Dear Minimax, it seem we move one step forward and two steps back. On using your suggested config for mounting the cdrom, I tried the game again and it worked !!!. When you get the CD Swap window up and you change cd's another window comes up do you want to cancel/try again/continue.

When you click continue twice it works!!. Very slowly and the mouse is almost uncontrollable, but it works. The big problem is when you enter and interact in one of the stores and come back out the frames (most of them) have turned black so you can't see where you are or where your going (Bah humbug) I'm currently using box 6.0 + Dos/4gw 1.95. I've just downloaded 6.1 + 1.97 and I'm thinking of installing and running both of these to see if it will sort out the problem. Any advice anyone????

Thanks for the help so far
