When no enemy is on a map, time compression is limited to 128x (sometimes even 256x). With enemy on a map (but no in sight) time compression slows down to 64x. When enemy is in sight, time compression is set to 8x.
I'm working on Celeron 2.4 GHz, GeForce FX 5200 128 MB, Sound Blaster 5.1. I'm running DosBOX in fullscreen mode (doublebuffering, of curse) with 4-5 frameskip and about 5000 cycles (soon I will probe more), on Linux (Aurox Linux, but I'm sure it will run on other distributions too).
This issue is not related to DOSBox itself - that's the way Silent Hunter was coded. If you have any uints in the neighbourhood, you cannot set time acceleration to a value higher than 64.
