I've been playing Return to Zork under DOSBox 0.61 for several days, and have been trying to optimize my settings. Unfortunately, I'm been unable to get the sound working satisfactorily.

My system is a generic AMD Athlon 3200-based system with a gig of ram. CPU is running at 2.2ghz. I'm using the D-Fend front-end. My settings currently are as follows:

Video card: vga 640x480.
Memory settings: 64mb. EMS/XMS both enabled.
CPU cycles 12000, CPU Core set to dynamic, frame skip 0.
Sound: sample rate 11025, block size 4096, Soundblaster emulation (240/7/1)

Problem is I either get fragmented sound or severe latency, depending on the sound settings. Video runs well, but not the sound. A couple of days ago I had everything working pretty well, but then started tweaking, and can't get back to where I was 😒 .

Any suggestions?
