I am having issues regarding X-Car: Experimental Racing while running the hardware-accelerated version on DOSBox 0.73 using gulikoza's patch.

The game runs seemingly fine, but then will crash DOSBox with the same error (std::bad_alloc) after finishing every race. A screenshot with the error is shown below:

And even if DOSBox doesn't crash after the race, it will when the next race is loading.

Lowering the allocated memory did not seem to work.

I am running DOSBox on Windows 10 64-bit with 32 GB DDR4-1333MHz RAM, an i7-7700k processor, and an integrated Intel Graphics 630.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Just play the software renderer version, the 3Dfx version is very unstable in DOSBox.

I've experienced the following problems using DOSBox SVN r4024 (applied the patches and compiled myself):

xcarfx.exe v1.0
- won't even start with gulikoza's patch
- unstable with kekko's 3Dfx chip emulation (even with voodoo=software)

- unstable with gulikoza's patch
- unstable with kekko's 3Dfx chip emulation (even with voodoo=software)

I don't know if there is some magic combination of settings that would make the game more stable. Knowing Bethesda the game probably is full of bugs and they are causing DOSBox to crash...

That's pretty funny.

Though, for all I know, it could be that the software itself is unstable. Wouldn't be the first time I encountered this, since Screamer on SVGA mode is also unstable on both actual hardware and DOSBox.

Maybe this is why Bethesda called it "Experimental Racing"... 😉

Seriously, I'm getting something similar. I can drive one race, but, once I'm back in the menus, the game freezes up. I tweaked a lot of your settings, too, and nothing made a difference.
