cannot run settlers on my 900 Mhz computer with a optical mouse.
but as i read, dosbox emulate a mouse. i cannot load a mouse driver, as shown on http://dosbox.sourceforge.net faq (both, logitech and microsoft driver said there is one already in memory).
also the hotkey (ctrl-f10) cant solve this.
i changed the dos extender dos/4gw to DOS32a but allways the same problem: "exception 0bh (segment not present)".
so i switched of the sound and tried some different resolutions, ram sizes, cpu cycles in the CFG.

now, with DOS32a i get this error message from dosbox:

Fatal signal: Segmentation Fault (SDL Parachute Deployed)

did anyone have the same problem, and how do you solve it?
and..................mmmhh, i use dosbox 0.63

Eh - which problem? Using the mouse, exception 0bh, or SDL fault?

I don't have that game, so...

Perhaps you could start by posting the commands you used in DOSBox to mount a directory as the C-drive and your CD as drive D? How did you install the game? How do you start the game?

so:
the game was still on the harddrive directory d:\games\settlers
then i added in the CFG:
[autoexec]
# Lines in this section will be run at startup.

mount c d:\games\settlers

c:

if you open dosbox you can type "quick.bat" or "sied.exe" to start the game.
then dos32a starts, and nothing more happend, only the error.

How did it get there? Did you copy the files from an CD, did you unpack them from a download?

First of all don't load any mouse driver as dosbox has build-in
support (if this wasn"t already mentioned above).
Then try to start the game with "sied n" or check some
of the batch files what parameters are possible.
The game runs fine with dos4gw, so try to stick to that one.

And be sure there are no read-only files.

thanx,
i did it, but there is still the error:

DOS/4GW Professional error (2001): exception 0Bh (segment not present) at 180:001B1228

and some more signs. i searched the web, but found nothing about this mystical error.
isnt the fault of dos/4gw, dos32a do the same.
the demo version and the intro works fine!

I know it is nice to be able to play a game off the hard-disk instead of having to insert a diskette everytime, but when you are having problems with a game, it is best to go back to basics:

  1. Delete everything in that D:\Games\Settlers directory.
  2. Insert first diskette in drive A.
  3. Start DOSBox.
  4. In DOSBox, mount up drive C and A.
    Z:>mount C "D:\Games\Settlers"
    Z:>mount A "A:\" -t floppy
  5. Install the game from A: to C:
    Z:>A:
    D:>install (or setup, or whatever....)
  6. Configure sound, ....
  7. Start game.

ok, i get the original disks and it works. no error message.
think it was the win95 patch i did some years ago on the sied.exe,
sometimes its so easy, but difficult to find out.
thanx a lot 😁
