Just got this DOSBox up and running, and I got to say its awesome! I was dancing around all last night when I realised I could play some of my old favorites again.

But I'm not a tech guy (who is?), and find that the game I'm trying to play, Syndicate Wars, is running pretty slow. To be more specific, the menu screen runs just fine, its in-game that everything moves like molasses.

To try and fix the problem, I have messed around with the frameskip and speeding up and slowing down the game. The best setting I think I found were 25000, Frameskip 3. But the game still moves chunky. So I looked into the "resource demanding games" section (http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php? … eDemandingGames) of the FAQ but quickly got lost.

At best, I understood the dynamic CPU option, but anytime I tried to type: core=dynamic, as suggested I would get an error message saying "Illegal command: core". 😖 The rest of the options I kinda understood, but only so far as to press buttons without any discernable result.

Anyhoo, if anyone is willing to help I would be obliged! System Info is as follows:

Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ
512 RAM
Geforce FX Go5200
Windows XP

There is a chance that you will be able to do something like 'core=dynamic' in the next release of DOSBox, but for now you need to wipe out Notepad and edit the file named dosbox.conf in your DOSBox installation directory.

Also - as a self-proclaimed non-techie, you should also check this page:
