Thank you both for the tips. I don't mind fixing the libSDL in Portage at all-- thanks for telling me how, prompt; I am running 1.2.8-r1-- it was just the concept of having two libSDLs on my system that was of concern.

I did compile the CVS that Qbix provided last night and ran into some problems. It compiled fine, but 1) DBoxFE refused to acknowledge it (I had to change the dboxferc file and call it the stable version to get it seen at all), and 2) it ran, but refused to exit using the 'exit' command (had to be XKill-ed, but that succeeded without error). I'm assuming that 1) is an DBoxFE issue, and 2) might be solved by having the correct libSDL. I don't see either of them as major show-stoppers anyway, so I'll press on and report my hoped-for success 😀 in a bit.

Heh....wow this sounds like a mess.

Well I have BAK CD. It has like 50 redbook audio tracks on the CD and also the original MIDI files. You pick which you want to hear in the options menu...
