I am running Windows Me 4.90.30000
1.15 GHz AMD Athlon XP processor
ECS K7S5A main board
160 meg of memory (the slower memory of the two kinds acceptable
to this board - been awhile since I last dealt with it)
Running an 80 Gig HDD with mostly free space, one partition for
drive C:. Also a CD-RW drive on drive E:.

Installed DOSBox-0.63 in the C:\Program Files\dosbox-0.63 folder.

I am running one of my favorite card games, Sierra's Hoyle Book of Games, Volume 2 - Solitaire. I also enjoy Volume 1, which contain such games as Crazy Eight, Hearts, Cribbage, where there are a host of personalities to choose from played by the computer as my opponent.

One of the neatest features of these DOS games is the music.

I have run the Install program to set the game up to match my hardware:

EGA/VGA with RGB monitor, 16 colors
various sound options (see below)
IBM or compatible keyboard
Joystick no
Nouse yes

I usually use the AdLib Music Synthesizer card option,
but so far nothing but the speaker works, and that is a very poor rendition of what I used to hear using the AdLib option.

I am wondering how I need to set DOSBox configuration to make any of these options work:

AdLib Music Synthesizer Card
Creative Music Systems Game Blaster
Tandy 1000 series or IBM PCjr
Roland MT-32, MT-100, LAPC-1, CM-321, or CM-64
IBM PC or Compatible Internal Speaker (This works)
Tandy 1000 SL, TL series

These are the only audio choices offered, with no reference to technical details like IRQ or DMA settings.

I am running an sb16 configuration as follows:
****[Copy and paste]
[sblaster]
# type -- Type of sblaster to emulate:none,sb1,sb2,sbpro1,sbpro2,sb16.
# base,irq,dma,hdma -- The IO/IRQ/DMA/High DMA address of the soundblaster.
# mixer -- Allow the soundblaster mixer to modify the dosbox mixer.
# oplmode -- Type of OPL emulation: auto,cms,opl2,dualopl2,opl3.
# On auto the mode is determined by sblaster type.
# oplrate -- Sample rate of OPL music emulation.

type=sb16
base=220
irq=7
dma=1
hdma=5
mixer=true
oplmode=auto
oplrate=22050
****[/Copy and Paste]

I have also disabled the Gravis Ultrasound emulation, whatever that is, but that made no difference.

I have Sierra located in the C:\DOS\Sierra\H2 folder in Windows Me, and have MOUNTed c c:\dos -freesize 9 in DOSBox.

I copied the game folder from my Windows 95 computer, which plays the game with full sound on an HP 125 MHz Pentium.

The game runs on Windows Me but I have no sound card support for DOS games

Any help is appreciated.

Follow-up:

It works. AdLib is playing over my speakers as I start the Hoyle volume 2 game.

Following my post, I searched the forum, and did a search through the Readme and the Dosbox.conf for the word" adlib." README says it is fully supported, there is no reference to it in the configfile.

While I was at it, I decided to implement the -noconsole option, and in my online reading I learned of the alt-enter keystroke to switch between window and fullscreen.

I ran the game's install and reselected adlib and ran the game.

The music plays! Maybe has to do with my choice to use -noconsole?

My default frameskip is 3, as this seemed to clean up my sound skipping problem with the other uses I have thus far made with DOSBox.
