Hi!

Using the knowledge from this forum I managed to actually start Strike Commander. I had to sacrifice the Sound, which makes me more than just unhappy.
Worse still - if it can get any worse - the game is very slow indeed. The Falcon in the intro jumped a metre between each picture... no smooth movement to be seen anywhere. I pumped the Dos Box up to 22000 cycles and I dont think it made any difference whatsoever.

My system:
Windows 2000
DosBox0.61
Geforce 3 4200 TI (or was is Geforce 4 4200 TI... only one is correct, anyway)
AMD Athlon 1700

That would be GeForce 4.

First, upgrade to DOSBox 0.63. It is much improved compared to 0.61.
Second, and Athlon 1700 may simply not have enough oomph to run SC in DOSBox.
Third, if even the intro is not smooth, there may be something else amiss. Perhaps you have set frameskip to a number so high that it causes jerky movement?

In my experience, SC (CD version) runs silky smooth on my system (P4 2.8GHz) with sound enabled, frameskip=0 and cycles=9000.
