Hi all

been having some speed issues with the IPX > UDP system included within Dosbox, and have come across some options that I can't find any documentation for.

basically, IPX connects fine, but as soon as something accesses it (say theme hospital), the game will slow to a complete crawl.

this doesn't happen when my friends connect together, only me...

The main differences are that I'm using a vanilla dosbox on windows XP, and they are using dosbox obtained from GOG.com.

under the ipx section, they have

[IPX] Enable=1 Connection=1 ipx=true […]
Show full quote

[IPX]
Enable=1
Connection=1
ipx=true

Where all I have is "ipx=true"

could anyone tell me if the Enable and connection tag are actually doing anything, and how they function or whether they are spurious.

Thanks...

They are spurious

How far are your pcs away from each other ?
IPX (historically) has been designed to be used on LAN. Some IPX games expect LAN type response times.

Hi,

thanks for confirming that...

the pc's are across the 'net from each other... so I wasn't expecting fantastic results... but it's weird cos my friends can connect & play together fine, but i can't...

Ping times using ipxnet ping seem to be around 50ms between all hosts.

Is there any modification that can be done in the IPX section that might be worth looking into?

Regards,

Steve
