I have upgraded Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 on my laptop. All native Linux multiplayer games and all Wine-emulated multiplayer games are working as fine as they used to do with 12.04. (My laptop has a LAN with my Windows desktop PC.)

I have installed DOSBox 0.74, same as with 12.04.

Whenever I try to launch multiplayer game with nullmodem-settings, the host (desktop PC) will wait other players like before. When I lauch client (laptop), DOSBox will hang and I have to force a reboot with CTRL+ALT+F1.

I have tried to make my laptop serving as a host and desktop as a client, but that way they will not get connected.

I have also this problem:

IPX Server is not starting

On my case, DOSBox will not hang and I am able to exit DOSBox normally.

Thanks.

Try the win32 version under wine. 😀

Nice idea, but I will stay on Linux-version.

Did you select a port above 1024 ?

That was strange. Seems that it now required the port setting...

nullmodem server:XXX.XXX.XXX.XX port:5000

...so I put 5000 right away. First, I got multiplayer to work on newer DOS-games. Lauch was still slower than before, but it worked. I also noticed that if I had the wrong settings and waited for a long time, the games were still able to launch.

For Doom and Doom II, I decided to forget about IPX. Nullmodem works for them, too.

The oldest game required "core=normal" for getting multiplayer mode to work with nullmodem!

Thanks.
